The main functions of this division is
to ensure the protection of fish resources through Monitoring
Controlling
and Surveillance programmes and rescue fisherman
stranded at sea.
This unit performs the following services to help the industry to ensure that the fishery products meet the international standards.
Surveillance and rescue operations
Monitoring and Controlling of illegal unauthorized fishing
Provide fishing ground information to fishermen
Provisions of weather forecast for fisherman
Coordinate with Sri Lanka Navy, Air Force and Colombo
Radio to rescue the fishermen and crafts in distress situation
in Sri Lanka EEZ and in case of outskirt of EEZ with Foreign
Affairs Ministry and other foreign missions
